FC Dallas announces Pre-Academy program for 2011/12; Academy and Pre-Academy teams to participate in 10-month season
The US Soccer Development Academy Texas Division, along with all the clubs in the Northwest and SoCal Divisions, have decided to expand their seasons from the current schedule to a full 10-month schedule.
FC Dallas has simultaneously committed to expand their academy program to include 3 additional age groups which will participate in the Texas Pre-Academy League (TEPAL), a US Club Soccer sanctioned league competing in regional divisions. There will be eight participating TEPAL Clubs – FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Solar, Lonestar, Classics Elite, Dallas Texans, Houston Rush, and Houston Texans.
Each will register one team per age at the U-13, U-14 and U-15 age levels to play in a 10-month season beginning in September and ending in June. The U-16 and U-18 Academy teams will also play their seasons during the same 10-month period. Players in TEPAL are registered through US Club Soccer and can be dual registered to local FC Dallas Classic League teams.
FC Dallas announced last week that Director of Coaching Chris Hayden will serve as Director of the FCD Pre-Academy and will co-coach all the Pre-Academy teams in the initial year, as well as continue to assist the coaching of the U-16 and U-18 Academy teams.
"The introduction of the Pre-Academy will allow us to extend the FC Dallas Way curriculum and training methods into younger age categories and help us to develop players with better habits for our Academy program," said Hayden. "It is widely recognized and supported that young players improve more rapidly by training more frequently and playing fewer high quality matches. The Pre-Academy offers FC Dallas the opportunity to accelerate the development of a group of selected, very young, high quality players and expand their opportunities to one day play for our first team."
Coach Francisco Molina has been named head coach of the U-14 and U-15 Pre-Academy squads. Molina is currently an assistant coach to both the U-16 and U-18 Academy teams, as well as head coach of the FCD 97 Premier team that recently made it to the finals of this year’s Dallas Cup.
Pre-Academy open training sessions will be held June 1-3, this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Pizza Hut Park on Fields 2 and 3 for players wishing to try out. Sessions will be organized by birth year: players born in 1997 will train at 6:00pm; those born in 1998 at 6:30pm; and those born in 1996 will train at 8:00pm.
